Counselling and Psychotherapy

About Me: Welcome
_DSC9173.jpeg

I have practiced short term counselling and long term psychotherapy for individuals; couples, families and groups, with children, youth and adults for over 16 years.

I began my journey as a therapist working in Child Protection Services in Ontario helping children, youth and families in abusive situations, attending court and providing counselling to all members of the family.

I then travelled out West where I acquired my Master of Social Work from UBC specializing in Employee Assistance Programming.

After my degree I was hired as the Coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program for the Calgary Board of Education where I administered the program while supervising staff, conducting training workshops and providing direct short and long term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families of all ages.

While there, I became an avid mountain climber, challenging myself extensively in the outdoors.

After a number of years in that position I decided to expand my personal world even more by travelling for 3 years alone around the world immersing myself in each culture, living with families in villages and cities, conducting personal development workshops in various organizations, and spending time in mindfulness retreats along the way.

The awakening and growth I acquired from that experience is beyond what words can fully achieve, but it opened my heart and mind exponentially to the diversity, value and uniqueness of each individual on this planet.

Upon returning I took a position with Brown/Crawshaw Inc, a large Employee Assistance Company in Vancouver where I provided: assessment, short and long term counselling and psychotherapy with individuals, couples, families and groups of all ages; community liaison and referral; as well as workshops on various topics to employees in a vast variety of organizations.

I have since raised 3 children as a single parent; homeschooling and parenting from an attachment perspective. We have travelled, worked in orphanages in places like Nepal, and experienced life fully together.

In more recent years I have been engaged in extensive training in Bodynamics; a form of Somatic Developmental Psychotherapy, completing a certificate in Healing Developmental Disruptions, engaging in extensive practice as a therapist as well as personal therapy. In my commitment to ongoing professional development I am continuing in the Bodynamic Practitioner Training program toward full certification.

I also practice yoga, dance and meditation as methods of somatic healing.

I am passionate about therapy as I have personally experienced, witnessed and facilitated immense healing through the therapeutic process. Human beings are social with a deep drive toward contact and connection.

Regardless of what we have experienced in life there is an accessible pathway for all of us back to the core of our being where a true sense of self worth, peace and contentment reside.
